Executive Summary

The 2026 Airport Drivers Tourism Education (ADTEA) is a Tourism Afrikania initiative designed to improve the quality of visitor experiences in Lagos by educating and empowering frontline transport professionals who interact directly with visitors.

For many visitors arriving in Lagos, one of their first meaningful interactions with the destination may be with an airport taxi driver, ride-hailing driver, hotel shuttle operator, chauffeur or airport transfer provider. These professionals are more than transportation providers. Their professionalism, communication, attitude, knowledge and ability to responsibly connect visitors with tourism businesses can influence how visitors perceive Lagos and how much they spend within the local tourism economy. ADTEA was developed from this important reality.

The programme seeks to position frontline transport professionals as tourism ambassadors, equipping them with relevant knowledge around tourism, visitor experience, professionalism, destination awareness, customer service, conflict management and tourism’s economic impact.

Section 04

Background & Rationale

"A visitor's experience of a destination begins long before they check into a hotel or visit a tourist attraction."

Positive Impact

A Well-Trained Driver

A professional, informed and welcoming driver creates an immediate positive first impression, communicates effectively, demonstrates cultural sensitivity, and responsibly introduces visitors to legitimate tourism experiences.

Boosts destination trust & visitor confidence
Generates local revenue flow across Lagos tourism
Systemic Risk

An Untrained Experience

Poor communication, unprofessional conduct, misinformation, pricing disputes, safety concerns or poor customer service negatively affect the visitor's perception of the entire destination.

Causes visitor anxiety, disputes & reputational loss
Deterrents repeat visits and direct economic spending
